Mastic Quest Vinyl Siding in Pebblestone Clay

Lincoln and Omaha Vinyl Siding Contractor

Selecting a new exterior color for your home is usually applied in the form of siding, trim, and roofing. All choices are much more permanent than changing the wall color of the inside of your home. When choosing colors focus on the following:

  1. The Architecture of your home. Most styles have a tried and true color palette. Color ideas for your homes architecture can be found by looking at a variety of web sites. Here at Casey Nelson Exteriors web site homeowners can not only see a wide variety of homes but also look for information regarding color choice selection.
  2. The Landscape. Look at the geography surrounding your home.
  3. The Neighbors. Walk around your neighborhood and see what your neighbors have done. Try to blend your home exterior with theirs. Do not do something completely different.
  4. Consisting Components. Consider the colors already on your home that are a major expense. This would include a new roof you already have installed, brick work or landscaping.
  5. Trim and Accent. When selecting your homes exterior color you will also be selecting trim and accent color. One trick when electing trim is to select your field color, and then choose a hue on the same color strip that is two to three shades lighter. In doing so you know that the colors will work together.
  6. Thankfully exterior home colors do not change as quickly and dramatically as interior colors do.

This beautiful home is an example of pulling all the key components together to establish a home that is the talk of the neighborhood. The eye appeal of this home is captured through the color choice of Mastic’s Quest Pebblestone Clay that the homeowners selected for their vinyl siding. Vents, porch ceiling, wraps, soffit and fascia were also completed in Pebblestone Clay. To add detail and pull all the components together for total curb appeal the home owners selected Cameo for the corner pieces of the home!

A split-level home is defined as a style of house where the floor levels are staggered. Typically two short sets of stairs, one running upward to a bedroom level, and one going downward toward a basement area exist in the floor plan of these homes. The basement level is usually finished with additional living space as well as a garage. Split-level homes include variations:

  • Side split – the split-level is visible from the front elevation of the home.
  • Back split – the split-level is only visible from the side elevation. The front elevation shows only a single story and the two stories are in the back.
  • Bi-Level – includes two short sets of stairs and two levels. The entry is between floors.
  • Modified Bi-level – the garage is attached at the front of the bi-level, not under it.

Spring Cleaning Your Vinyl Siding

It won’t be long and robins will be visiting our yards, the sun will be warming us up, and the concept of “spring cleaning” will be back on our calendars and list of things to do! If your home’s exterior is in need of a little freshening up here is a list of things you can do to eliminate the dirt and grime that may have decided to cling to your siding’s surface.

  1. General Cleaning: use an ordinary garden hose to give your siding a light rinse working your siding from the top down.
  2. Moderate Dirt: we recommend at least an annual washing with clear water using a garden hose and soft-bristled brush. A long-handled car washing brush is ideal for this purpose. Avoid using stiff bristle brushes or abrasive cleaners, which may change the gloss of the cleaned area and cause the siding to look splotchy. If the dirt and grime refuses to budge and you feel you need a cleaning solution use the below sodium hypochlorite solution:
    1. 1/3 cup powder detergent (e.g. – Fab, Tide, or equivalent powder detergent)
    2. 2/3 cup powder household cleaner (e.g. – Soilax, Spic & Span, or equivalent)
    3. 1 gallon water
      1. When washing down the entire house, start at the bottom and work up to the top in order to prevent streaking.
  1. Mildew Accumulation: mildew can collect on surfaces of all types of building products. Normally, mildew will appear as black spots. Mildew can be removed by using the basic cleaning solution above with the addition of sodium hypochlorite. Below is the solution:
    1. 1/3 cup powder detergent (e.g. – Fab, Tide, or equivalent powder detergent)
    2. 2/3 cup powder household cleaner (e.g. – Soilax, Spic & Span, or equivalent)
    3. 1 gallon water
    4. 1 quart liquid laundry bleach

Pebblestone Clay Vinyl Siding

Mastic Dutch Ovations Pebblestone Clay Vinyl Siding

When selecting exterior colors to compliment brick that is already on your home the best method is to try to match or compliment colors within the bricks themselves. In doing so you do not produce too much of a contrast to the exterior of the home allowing the brick color, the siding, and accent colors to work together to define the architecture of the home itself.

This home was finished in Mastic Home Exteriors Ovations Dutch Pebblestone Clay Siding. Pebblestone Clay was also used for both the corners and porch ceiling. The overall effect compliments the brickwork of this beautiful home.
